kamika-ekadashi
Kamika Ekadashi is observed during waning phase of moon, i.e the Krishna Paksha of Shravan month as per Hindu Calendar. The significance of Kamika Ekadashi has been narrated in Brahmavaivartya Purana by Lord Krishna to Yudhishthira. Originally, it was narrated by Lord Brahma to his son Narada Muni.

Brahmaji told Narada – Kamika Ekadashi falls in the Krishna Paksha of Shravana Hindu month. By merely remembering it, one attains the fruit of performing Vajapeya yajna.

The fruit which is attained by giving away the whole earth along with the oceans, exactly same fruit is attained by observing fast of Kamika Ekadashi. The fruit which is attained by giving away a cow that has a calf along with all other things, same fruit is attained by worshipping God and observing fast of Kamika Ekadashi.

By worshipping Lord Shridhar while being awake for the whole night, one attains the fruit of worshipping all the Gandharvas (celestial singers), snakes and deities and he does not have to face Ymaraja (Lord of Death). One who wants to wash away all his sins and wants to attain merits, should certainly observe this Ekadashi fast.

Rituals

On the day of Kamika Ekadashi, one should worship Lord Vishnu with either flowers or Tusli (basil) while reciting his names -O’ Krishna, O’ Govinda, O’ Madhav,  Madhusudan and the punyas one attains, are even hard to attain even by going to pilgrimages like Ganges, Kashi; Naimisharanya and Pushkar.

Offering Tulsi pleases Lord Krishna much more than offering precious stones like ruby, pearl, munga and other jewels .Holy Darshana(sight) of Tulsi destroys all the sins. By touching holy Tulsi, body gets sanctified. By bowing in front of Tulsi, one gets freedom from the fear of diseases. By offering water to Tulsi, even Yamraja gets afraid. By replanting Tulsi, one gets blessings of Lord Krishna. By offering Tulsi leaves in the lotus feet of Lord Hari, one attains salvation.

Light a diya of pure Ghee or sesame seed oil in front of Tusli and chant this mantra

Sarva Saubhagya Dayini (Giver of all the prosperities)
Dukha Daridrya Nashini (Destroyer of all the sadness& poverties)

Om Tulsi devi namo namah

By worshipping Lord Krishna with Tulsi leaves, one gets the blessings of Lord Krishna. One, who lights diyas in front of Lord Krishna, his ancestors in Pitar Lok (abode of Ancestors)are offered amrit (elixir).By kindling diya with ghee or sesame oil and offering it to Lord Krishna, after death one gets worshipped with crores of diyas and attains heaven.Lord Krishna said, by merely listening to the significance of Kamika Ekadashi, one attains infinite merits and goes to Vishnu Lok (abode of Lord Vishnu).

On the day of Ekadashi, one should observe a complete fast by abstaining from drinking or eating anything all day long. However, those who are old, sick or children who cannot observe a complete fast may observe partial fast but must not eat rice or grains.
