International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking - prernamurti

Tikla is a small village located at the boarders of Haryana and adjacent to Rajasthan, having populationof only 1500 people, where no one is addict of smoking…!! Even though the village is small, but a tradition which is practiced from decades over here, conveys a big message to the public while making it a historic event. In the village no one is addict of smoking, everyone stays away from Beedi, cigarette and Paan (combination of betel leaf with areca nut and sometimes also with tobacco) masala, be it youngsters or old people.  No only this, whenever any relatives in come village, they are warned not to smoke Beedi and cigarette. If any stranger enters the village then the first question villagers ask to the stranger is –  Hope you are not carrying Beedi, cigarette, Paan and Gutka ( a preparation of crushed areca nut, tobacco, catechu, paraffin wax, slaked lime and sweet or savory flavorings) in your pocket ?  Further conversation with the strangers starts only after confirming this.  This small village is famous not only in Haryana but also in villages of Rajasthan where people consider this village as their ideal to be followed. This tradition of Tikla village of not consuming tobacco in any form is existing from decades. This tradition is now converted into an awareness of drugs de-addiction.

During the ‘ Aayushyamaan Bhava’ de- addiction campaign, it was discoveredthat people consider drug addiction as a tradition and normal activity like they do their business or jobs and continue to consume drugs as a heritage from one generation to another. Youngsters say that since their forefathers have followed this tradition of consuming drugs, they are also doing it.They don’t even know why they are consuming these drugs..!! When such people were made aware of the hazards of drug addictions, they realized that they are playing with their own lives and putting their lives at risk. They understood that they were doing damage to their own bodies which is irreversible. Then they took vow to get rid of drug addictions and thus safeguard their precious human life. They have proved their wisdom, won’t you do so? So, let’s join hands together to get rid of drug additions and also inspire others to keep away from drugs.

Let’s come together and show India a new path to follow,
Thus make the society free from drug addictions forever…!!
